Washington, DC artist Bill Miller creates textured panoramas, interior scenes, and delicate portraits from reclaimed vintage linoleum and vinyl flooring. Creating an effect that lies somewhere between collage and stained glass, Bill's innovative use of the linoleum's pattern and color is his signature style. Family members and familiar places become subjects depicted in rich patterns of linoleum, carefully placed, layered, then sealed on masonite. Bill began working with reclaimed materials as a founding member of Pittsburgh's Industrial Arts Co-op, constructing large scale sculptures made of scrap materials in abandoned industrial sites.

Scott Griffin creates dream-like scenes on scrap pieces of metal using his arc welder. With his brother, Clint Griffin, Scott was raised on a farm outside Toronto. Planes, people, trees and houses all seem to float over rugged pieces of industrial detritus. Moon rockets and spacemen also dance on iron, steel, and aluminum. Characters and scenes feel familiar like recurring dreams, frozen in the sinewy medium, unable to escape. In his newest work, Scott applies encaustic to wood, to form shadowy shapes that dance and pose in familiar shimmery stances.

This show will highlight recycled and reclaimed textured work in two, if not more, distinct medium and styles.
