Wreckage & Reclamation:
Ships by John Taylor

California self-taught artist John Taylor returns to the Northwest with a show of new ships. Each year we are blown away by John's new work and this year is no exception. In this body of work, John explores the beauty of loss and wreckage; a ships demise, decay, and eventual resurrection and new life as safe harbor for shore birds and marine life.

John Taylor has been building his ships since 1997. Working with found objects found around his southern California home, John creates interpretations of actual ships, drawing from images in books, photographs taken on visits to his native East Coast, or from archived photos found on the internet. Year after year, John's work continues to increase in complexity and strength, resulting in beautiful pieces that capture the imagination.

John's work is included in many private collections, including the Microsoft Art Collection, and he will be included in a major new volume on self-taught art later this year. Earlier this year John was included in "High Tide" at the Henry Art Gallery, and Garde Rail Gallery has shown his work in Atlanta, with shows to follow in New York and Pittsburgh in the coming year.
