The End Is Near!

Garde Rail Gallery presents artists from "THE END IS NEAR!" exhibit, originally on show at The American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore. This one evening event will feature a slide show and discussion by Aberdeen, WA artist Stephen Powers as he discusses his life and work. Also in attendance will be Seattle woodcarver Tim Fowler, Greenville, SC painter William Thomas Thompson, and Arizona artist Frank Bruno. This show takes place Friday June 18, at the Roq La Rue Gallery, 2224 Second Avenue, in Belltown. Opens at 7pm, slideshow promptly at 8pm, followed by apocalyptic/utopian party.

On show will be artwork by Powers, Thompson, and Fowler, as well as prints by Paul Laffoley and Joe Coleman, and a collection of Doomsday Computers by the late Zebedee "Z.B." Armstrong. These artists and many more are featured in the book to accompany the show "The End Is Near", published by Dilettante Press, members of which will also be in attendance. (Work from the original exhibit appeared at the Bellevue Art Museum last fall under the watered down title of "Visionary Voices".)

Stephen Powers is known for his bright acrylic paintings depicting futuristic architecture and buildings able to liftoff to avoid impending nuclear and natural disaster. Tim Fowler carves occupational gods and political cartoons, such as Stadium Pig, depicting Paul Allen. William Thomas Thompson is best known for his 300 foot long x 6 foot high interpretation of The Book of Revelations.
