Casey McGlynn

Toronto's Casey McGlynn paints on wood and canvas, creating work dense in imagery and texture. Casey also creates assemblage; boxes of wood and paint may feature cut-outs of animal figures, floating in the sky or on the ground, in uncommon situations.

In Casey's paintings, large herds of cattle-like creatures appear juxtaposed with birds and portly human figures (often Casey's depiction of himself). Text may feature in his work as well, resulting in paintings of rich, dark, hues, and large blocks of color. Casey's work perhaps depicts an imagined mythology of the people that once roamed the barren, Canadian wasteland tundra at the top of North America.

In any case, Casey is one of a group of young new artists that are keeping folk art collectors excited across the country. Since the spring of 2004, Casey has been living and working in Brooklyn, NY, and will fly out for the opening night reception. We are pleased to once again feature Casey's work at the gallery.
