Stephen Powers was born in Santa Cruz and moved to Aberdeen with his family in 1990. Once in the Northwest, his work soon came to the attention of the former MIA Gallery in Seattle. Upon showing at the annual Outsider Art Fair in New York, Stpehen quickly developed a following for his work. He works with bright acrylics on wood and canvas, and more recently on found objects and assemblages. His early work was architectural in nature, and then moving onto visions of disaster and the end of the world in the late 1990's. He was included in "The End Is Near" exhibit at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore and the book that followed. In 2005, Stephen returned to the Bay Area, and now resides in San Francisco.
