"Hundreds were turned out during World War II at a speed of production that was unanticipated at the start of the war. My uncle-in-law sailed them during the war. The rivets were attached in the manner not consistent with good nautical practice, so if the ship was hit it immediately fell apart--but the point was quantity, not quality and crews were more or less expendable."
