Originally sailed as the Grosser Kurfurst, the "great Elector," who ruled Brandenberg from 1640-1688, and launched in Danzig, Germany 1899. At the start of WWI, was interned in New York, and in 1917 she was seized by United States and sent to the New York Navy Yard to repair sabotage from the German crew. Renamed AEOLUS 1917.
