USS Hornet
USS Hornet (CV-8) - 42"l x 16 1/2"h x 6"w

"The story of the ship on the morning of April 18, 1942, is the story of the 16 modified B-25 Mitchell bombers. Randomly selected, #8 airplane bombed Tokyo with three 500 lb demolition bombs and one 500 lb incendiary bomb. Due to extremely high gasoline consumption and complete failure of their top turret gun, they proceeded to a landing 40 miles North of Vladivostock. Crew members were safe but interned by Russians 350 miles east of Moscow. Airplane was confiscated by the Russian Government. Crew, which had been given liberal freedoms, escaped to Iran and British Consul and returned to the US on May 29, 1943.
